The Pony Club was started many years ago, and over the decades the membership has fluctuated with the club nearly closing in 2000. However from the efforts of a dedicated adult membership base, the club grew to a staggering membership level of 32 members by 2006.
But by 2009 our membership base began to wane, and it was identified that a non-affiliated PCASA club needed to be created to help attract and retain adult members, and provide a much needed social network within the community.
This resulted in the birth of the Yankalilla District Equestrian Club in 2011.
A basic membership option is offered through our partnership with Equestrian Australia, as many riders have no desire to compete outside the club. In providing a social network for like-minded people within the community we are looking towards growing the sport within our district and also provide inspiration for riders of all ages and abilities.
It is hoped that as our membership grows, the pony club and equestrian club can coordinate resources and continue the improvement to the facilities available to all. In the past few years a fenced 70x30m dressage arena has been constructed, 12 new horse yards have been built, and most recently a new shed to house our club rooms. Future plans include building some cross country fences for training and fixing the lights to host some twilight clinics throughout the summer months.
In becoming a member of the YDEC or FHPC, you are providing assistance in improving the facilities for you and your horse. It is also important that all members, regardless of whether they are Junior or Senior members, help out at club days and club run competitions. This enables things to run smoothly and is an expected component of any club membership.
